I'm driving down a dark street tonight and I see this giant thing flying around about 50' in front of my car (maybe more). A few seconds after I see it, it makes a nose dive into somebody's yard and sits there for a second or two. I keep driving and as I get closer it decides to take off.
What I see next is basically a giant bird flying perpendicular to my car - we are going to collide if somebody doesn't do something.
So I hit the breaks and the giant bird changes his course and is now parallel with me, flying right outside my passenger window. I don't know for sure, but I think he was giving me the bird.
I never completely stopped when I hit the breaks so I keep going - looking at the bird I think, WTF, that looks like a
Pelican. But I'm in Kansas. This can't be. The bird drops behind me, and I see in the rear view window that he has landed on the street behind me. Out of a combination of sheer curiosity and a touch of concern that the bird might be injured, I turned around and drove back to see if he flies away and if he is the bird I think he is.
Well - I get a good look, and he does fly away. I'm still not 100% sure, but I still think I almost hit a Pelican. But what would a Pelican be doing in BFE Kansas?
